Competition for companies to develop or adapt medical devices, including digital solutions, for the needs of emergency medicine, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries sustained in combat medicine, mass events, and disasters

On June 12, 2023, the Medical Research Agency (ABM) published the Regulations for the “Competition for companies to develop or adapt medical devices, including digital solutions, for the needs of emergency medicine, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries sustained in combat medicine, mass events, and disasters”.

 

The main objective of the Competition is to increase the chances of survival for accidents’, mass events’ and disasters’ victims, as well as military personnel and civilian population that suffer injuries in  armed conflicts. It aims to improve the effectiveness of injuries’ treatment and rehabilitation  through the development and implementation of new or improved products and diagnostic solutions for the emergency medicine which should save lives, enable extended care for the injured who cannot be immediately evacuated from the battlefield or disaster area, and reduce the consequences of injuries, facilitating a faster return to normal life and professional activities.

The Competition does not cover projects involving medicinal products that:

  • Are packaged together with a medical device (Co-packaged Drug-Device Combination (DDC)),
  • Require the purchase of a specific medical device indicated in the Summary of Product Characteristics (referenced DDC),

or

  • Belong to product groups not intended for medical use (according to Article 1(2) of Regulation 2017/745 and Annex XVI to this Regulation).
